I’m from Shreveport, Louisiana, and now live in Texas.  I’m the only girl in a family with four brothers. I love music, planting flowers and am a dog lover…that’s why I works at an animal clinic, which has been my most fulfilling job. I get to play with a lot of different furry critters with different personalities.  It’s in the Blood is my first novel and was released by Class Act Books on August 15, 2016.

Welcome, L.K. Kuhl!

Hello everyone, I am Author L. K. Kuhl, and first of all I’d like to thank Highlighted Author for featuring me! It is wonderful to be here! I am from Nebraska and have been married to my high school sweetheart, Gene, for almost 30 years. We have a 10 year old son who keeps us young named Nathan, and Greg and Will, our furry dog kids. My husband and I also have two older daughters, Morgan and Brittani and son-in-law, Trevor. We also have 2 grand-dogs named Bentley and Lola. I have been writing for over twenty years. I first began writing children’s books and poetry, moved on to writing music, and am now writing Young Adult and Adult novels.
My husband and Mom both inspired me to write. I always felt I wanted to but didn’t believe I was good enough. They poked and prodded and soon, my first novel was born. My very first novel is called Chasing Butterflies and is about a young, local boy who was abused by his family. They eventually killed him. Social Services was called numerous times to the home, but nothing was ever done to help him. I wrote this story about his life and dedicated it to him. I hope to get it published one day soon.
I went on to write Everlasting, which is featured here. Everlasting is a Young Adult Paranormal Romance novel, and it is basically based on a true story as well. Here is my inspiration on why I wrote Everlasting:
My brother-in-law had passed away about 6 months before I began writing Everlasting. One night he came to me in a dream. He stood right beside my bed and I was able to ask him questions about what life after death was like. I asked him about 5 or 6 questions and his answers came back to me so real and lifelike, that I felt he was really there. Thus, Everlasting was born. I knew I had to incorporate his answers into a book. Although it is a work of fiction, some of his answers from my dream are in this book and I think you’ll find it intriguing.
Everlasting is the first book in a Trilogy and the second book, The Decision, should be out this fall.
Next, I moved on to an Adult Romantic Suspense Novel called Chasm. Chasm was just released on May 5th of this year. Chasm is also based on a true story and here is how it came to be:
I got the idea to write Chasm because my husband used to be an engineer for the railroad. Although my husband never worked with this gentleman directly, one of the engineers on the railroad hit and killed his wife and children with the train he was driving. It was no fault of the engineer. The wife did it deliberately to get back at her husband, the engineer. The engineer said the last thing he saw was his children looking up at him from the windows of the car.
Although this is a work of fiction, and this is just a story between two, fictional people, I felt compelled to tell his story about how utterly and completely devastating this would be. The engineer was never able to return to work after this.
So, most of my books are based on events that have happened in my life or in someone’s who is close to me. I hope that readers can feel the emotion in my books and take away from them that even though bad things in life happen, things will get better. Just don’t give up! Brighter days are ahead. Time does help heal. But all in all, I hope that readers enjoy my books. It’s the characters who write their own stories in my novels, and I am just their messenger, sharing it with the world.

Seventeen-year-old Sophia Bandell is scared of boys, and her biggest fear is dying. Boys make her uncomfortable and itchy and dying is …well …dying. She is ecstatic when her long lost friend calls her, inviting her to spend the summer with her on the beach at Charleston, South Carolina.
When a plastic saucer hits her in the head as she’s sunbathing, Sophia has no idea it will forever change the course of her life. It is there she comes face to face with the impressive Tate Forester.
She is scared and …itchy, but he’s gorgeous and she can’t shake him from her mind. They begin dating and Sophia soon knows he’s the one.
But things turn dark when she learns Tate isn’t the person she thinks he is, and the real reason her friend has brought her to the beach will teach her about life after death.
This everlasting summer on the beach gives Sophia a sweet taste of first love—the happiness as well as the heartbreak.

Wow! This was a great read! Yes, it’s a paranormal story, but I enjoyed it a lot! It “felt” so real! From the minute I started the book, I was hooked. L.K. Kuhl–a brand new author for me–pulled me in as a reader. She kept it interesting, suspenseful and involved. I didn’t want to stop reading. I read it quickly because I “needed” to know the end! Now, I can hardly wait until the second book in this trilogy comes out! I am very pleased with Kuhl’s style of writing, and I look forward to reading more of her work. I highly recommend this book for a quick and enchanting read!

While L.K. Kuhl masterfully entraps you in this fantasy, she writes the characters in such a way that they seem so real, you swear you have known them your whole life. The mystery of the story kept me engaged, and I didn’t want to put this book down! Can’t wait to read the next one!!

At 17, I was not thinking much of spending an entire summer away from my parents on the beach with my dearest friend. I certainly was not afraid of boys and dying was not even on my radar. L.K. Kuhl has brought me a beautiful, intriguing world of paranormal romance and fantasy wrapped in a subject that is not often approached by the young adults. Most young adults view themselves as invincible. Sweet Sophia is a realist and she knows dying is to be forever.

L.K. Kuhl lives in Nebraska with her husband Gene of twenty-nine years, young son, Nathan, and Greg and Will, their furry dog kids. She has two older daughters, Morgan and Brittani and son-in-law, Trevor. L.K. has been writing for over twenty years. She first began writing children’s books and poetry, moved on to writing music, and is now writing Young Adult and Adult novels. She loves spending time with her family, vacationing, writing, reading, and taking long walks. It’s the characters who write their own stories in her novels, and she is just their messenger, sharing it with the world.

Welcome, Marcel Feldmar!

Hi, Marcel! It’s great to have you on Highlighted Author with us!  Why don’t you give us a little introduction about yourself.

I have always been interested in writing, and reading. I was devouring books at an early age and started writing the dark teenage angst filled poetry during high school. I attended the writing program at the Naropa Institute (otherwise known as the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics) and a few college creative writing courses in Vancouver (Canada). I was distracted by music for a few years, but finally I put down the drumsticks and picked up a pen, and proceeded to push out my first novel — The Devil’s Jukebox.
That book is a little more esoteric, artsy and convoluted, but it was something that I had to get out before I could focus on the real stories I wanted to tell. I had never attempted writing in the young adult genre before, but during my travels through New Orleans I was inspired and got caught on a thought that evolved into this latest offering — Keys To The Sun.
I wanted to take some of the influences of my youth (The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Chronicles of Narnia, and maybe a little Scooby Doo) and write something that I would have loved to read. After the book writing block was removed, the words started to flow. I am currently working on a more adult tale that falls into a similar style, what I like to call Paranormal Pop Fiction, but I am also starting to work on ideas for a sequel to Keys To The Sun. It feels like a story that could have many chapters.

In a city built on legends, the truth is hard to find.
This is a novel-length fantasy based in modern-day New Orleans and inspired by The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew, with maybe a little bit of The Goonies and Scooby-Doo.
Keys To The Sun is a mystery tale about three teenagers on vacation in New Orleans who find more than they bargained for when they discover a secret attic in an old mansion.
Lucas and Parker Chance, with their new friend Nicole Wells, find an old map and mysterious clues that promise to lead them to a long lost pirate’s treasure. With the help of their enigmatic Aunt Ruby they begin to search through the French Quarter, but soon realize they are not alone in their quest, and find themselves caught between the forces of good and evil as the treasure turns out to be the location of the legendary House of the Rising Sun.
